Numerals at clock dials are so conventional… And absence of the numerals is no more original. Any other variants? Yes! And it is not a solar or sand clock. It is Nara Clock by Yoshitomo Nara. Nara is a part of a generation of young Japanese artists whose works are informed by Japanese popular culture, primarily manga (comics) and television animation.

Nara Clock looks like a toy for children: it is funny and touching. And it is also very original as the time is indicated with the help of pictures. All in all the clock uses 84 images made by the designer which change each other constantly: hour-images change one another once an hour while minute ones – every minute.
There are some numbers in the pictures but they don’t make a centre of the image. Sometimes you even have to look for the numeral in the picture which turns into an interesting game which will be to the taste of both children and adults.
