Surely the Great Barrier Reef is known even by those who never liked the lessons of geography at school. This wonder of nature is the world largest reef system consisting of more than 2900 independent reefs and 900 islands. The Great Barrier Reef is located in the Coral Sea near Australia and occupies the territory of about 344,400 square km.
Unfortunately today the unique system of reefs suffers from a number of serious problems – species extinction and water pollution. But the customers of the renowned watchmaking brand Oris have a chance to help the AMCS (Australian Marine Conservation Society) to protect and preserve the unique flora and fauna of the Great Barrier Reef. The brand has recently presented a limited edition collection of timepieces – Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition – and claimed that all the proceeds will be transferred to the account of the AMCS.
The novelty looks really great. The ultramarine dial makes a beautiful contrast to the luminescent indices and central hours and minutes hands of bright orange. Between 2 and 5 o’clock there is the seconds subdial with two hands one of which is covered with the luminescent treatment. The date aperture is placed at 6 o’clock. The back case of the 47-mm case crafted from the stainless steel is decorated with the attractive logo of the AMCS.
The watch is produced in a limited edition of 1000 pieces – the number symbolizes the impressive level of water resistance of the new watch.

This year the well-known watchmaking brand Oris presented two new watches whose design is inspired by the luxury supercars. Today we will tell you about one of them – the eye-catching chronograph Raid Chronograph inspired by the Jaguar XK120 car.
Well, what’s in the name of the novelty presented by Oris during the BaselWorld 2010? 20 years ago in Basel Hans-Andre Bizel decided to revive the event that will be dedicated to the exhibition of the luxury vintage cars as well as their test-drives and contests for the drivers. As a result the town of Basel witnessed the appearance of the series of rallies among which the most famous is the Raid Suisse-Paris that takes place every August. The rally Raid Suisse-Paris covers the distance of 800 – 1000 km and unites 180 participants among which 12 teams are completely female.
In 2010 Oris signed a partnership contract with the rally and became the official timekeeper of the 20th Jubilee Raid Suisse-Paris rally. Following the tradition the watchmaking brand presented a timepiece created to celebrate the new partnership. The “muse” for the new watch is the 2009 winner of the rally – the amazing Jaguar XK120 car of 1952 with 6-cylinder motor.
The control panel of the car made a basis for the design of the dial of the new Raid Chronograph Limited Edition. The revolutionary tachymeter with the indication of the dangerous red zone is reflected on the hours and minutes totalizers with the indication of the unique “0-position”. The back case shows the logo of the rally and an individual number of the timepiece from 001/500 to 500/500.
The novelty is powered by a self-winding movement animating the functions of hours, minutes, seconds, date and chronograph. The watch is accommodated by a polished steel case measuring 43.5 mm in diameter. The dial is protected with a convex sapphire crystal with the inner anti-reflection covering. The watch is water resistant down to 30 meters.
The black dial shows nickel hands covered with the luminescent treatment. The watch is completed with a black leather strap or a steel bracelet.
